Get a free Groq API key in about a minute
Groq runs open AI models very fast and has a free tier. With a free key, Reply Better AI can write replies and rewrites in any language, on any computer.
Steps
- Go to console.groq.com/keys and sign in, or create a free account.
- Click Create API Key, give it a name like “Reply Better AI”, and confirm.
- Copy the key. Groq shows it only once, so paste it somewhere safe if you want to keep it.
- In Reply Better AI, open Settings → Engine → Groq and paste the key.
- Click into any message box and try it.
That’s it. The settings page shows how many requests you have left today, read straight from Groq.
Keep your key safe
- Don’t share the key or paste it into websites. Anyone with it can use your Groq quota.
- If you think it leaked, delete it on the Groq keys page and create a new one.
- Reply Better AI keeps the key in the extension’s background worker. Web pages you visit can’t read it.
Questions
Is the Groq key free?
Groq has a free tier. It has rate limits, which you can see on the limits page of your Groq account. For writing emails and messages, the free tier is usually plenty.
Where is my key stored?
In your browser's local extension storage. It's not synced, and it's only sent to Groq when you ask for a rewrite or a reply. We never see it.
Why would I need a key if on-device AI is free?
Chrome's on-device model only supports a few languages and needs fairly strong hardware. A Groq key works in any language, in Firefox too, and on older computers.
What if I hit the limit?
Wait a bit and try again, or switch to another engine in settings. With Auto, Reply Better AI falls back to the next engine you've set up.
How do I remove the key?
Clear it in the extension's settings, and delete it on the Groq keys page so it stops working.
